Evaluation of Aquatic Facilities City of San Leandro San Leandro High School C. FACILITY DATA: SAN LEANDRO HIGH SCHOOL The San Leandro High School is located on Bancroft Avenue between the cross streets of 136th Avenue and Sybil Avenue. The two swimming pools are located on the south east side of the campus. The location of the pool complex is not accessible without crossing through the school campus. There is a Pacific Gas and Electric utility easement on the south side of the pool for high power lines and towers. These electric lines prevent any expansion of the pools or school campus in that direction. The north side of the pool is adjacent to the school baseball field. The San Leandro High School Pool Complex consists of two pools and a bathhouse. The competition pool is approximately 42-feet wide by 75-feet long. It has a maximum depth of 10- feet and a minimum depth of 3-feet 6-inches. The adjacent warm-up pool is approximately 20- feet wide and 50-feet long. 'The deepest part on the warm-up pool is in the center of the pool where the depth is 4-feet at the main drain grate. The two ends both have depths of 3-feet 6- inches. The two pools share a single mechanical system, which commingles water from both pools for treatment and temperature. The mechanical equipment is stored outdoors in a cyclone enclosure. The pool bleachers have deteriorated and the seats have been removed. The adjacent bathhouse was being used by the football team as a locker room at the time of our site visit. Both pools are skimmer style pools. The warm-up pool has a single main drain grate that could pose an entrapment hazard. The mechanical equipment has been replaced within the last five years with the exception of the pool water heater. The pool area has minimal overhead lighting that is suitable for safety lighting only. The location of the pool (landlocked within the school campus) creates difficulties for chemical deliveries or other such maintenance. Access to the pools for any uses other then school functions requires the entry and crossing of the school campus, which can pose security problems for the school.
