CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS

Councilmember Gregory thanked his fellow Councilmembers, stated that it has been a
pleasure working with them over the past year, and wished them happy holidays.

Mayor Santos stated that Vice Mayor Grant is on vacation.
Councilmember Souza commented that whenever the Council approves a project, there is a
tradeoff in that there is another project that will not get funded. She urged the continued use
of the City Council Committees to provide insight and guidance to the City Council.
Councilmember Souza commented that the Council should continue to work on joint use
projects with the School District, and even those ideas, such as the Teen Center, that may not
have received support in the past. Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the
Board and Commission Holiday event at the Marina Community Center, the Police Academy
graduation, the dinner for the Mayor of Ponta Delgada and the UPEC Open House. She
thanked Councilmember Starosciak for inviting her to attend the Police Academy graduation.
Councilmember Souza noted that it is the close of her first year on the Council, and she
commented that it has been both an exciting and educational year for her. She wished
everyone a safe and happy holiday and wonderful New Year celebration.
Councilmember Starosciak wished everyone a happy holiday. She thanked staff for an
excellent Board and Commission holiday celebration at the Marina Community Center, and
for the dinner at Vila Cereja for the Mayor of Ponta Delgada. Councilmember Starosciak
commented that she attended the Chamber Luncheon, at which the businesses and business
people of the year were announced. She noted that Planning Manager Kathy Livermore
received the Entrepreneurial Spirit award for her work on the Downtown Transit-Oriented
Development Strategy.
Councilmember Stephens wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Councilmember Prola commented on the Godbe survey results. He expressed surprise that
the survey results indicated that a parcel tax measure would not pass, because he has heard so
much support from residents of District 6 for keeping the Marina open. Councilmember
Prola commented that there is also citywide support for keeping the Marina open, but not
th
support for paying to do so anniversary
celebration. Councilmember Prola commented that many District 6 residents are very
supportive of the LINKS Shuttle, and many businesses in the BID are also supportive.
