CITY AND SAN LEANDRO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT LIAISON COMMITTEE <br />March 20, 2008 <br />4:00 - 5:30 p.m. <br />San Leandro City Hall <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br />(Sister Cities Gallery) <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />Committee Members: Mayor Tony Santos, Vice Mayor Surlene Grant, Councilmember Michael <br />Gregory, Board President Ray Davis, Board Member Rick Richards, <br />Alternate Board Member Pauline Cutter <br />City Staff Present: City Manager John Jermanis, Assistant City Manager Steve Hollister, <br />Assistant to the City Manager Jacqui Diaz, Recreation and Community <br />Services Director Carolyn Knudtson <br />SLUSD Staff Present: Superintendent Christine Lim, Assistant Superintendent Song Chin- <br />Bendib, Facilities Manager Mike Murphy, High School Facilities <br />Manager Greg Dyer, Jack Nelson SLUSD <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. by Mayor Santos. <br />1. Discussion of Burrell Field <br />City Manager Jermanis reported on past history and previous discussions about the <br />condition and maintenance of the site. There had been some ideas of moving it to the <br />Oyster Bay property, but that would not work out due to height requirements. He <br />reported that it components could be transferred elsewhere or that the facility could be <br />fixed at the existing site for approximately $20 million. He stated that both the City and <br />District have limited resources. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented on the "Field of Dreams" company and asked if this <br />concept could be a possibility for San Leandro. He also asked if there was any potential <br />for athree-way sharing of a sports facility between SLUSD, SLzoUSD and the City. <br />Mr. Jermanis commented on the issue of lighting and effects on surrounding <br />neighborhoods. He also stated that there were newer types of lighting available now that <br />did not impact as strongly as in previous years. Director Knudtson commented on the <br />newer type of lighting, the number and height of lights at the Aquatic Center; to date no <br />complaints have been received. <br />
