MINUTES Page ll City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-Apri17, 2008 with Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) members about plastic bags. A YAC member who works in a grocery store told her that when a customer has only one or two items, he asks if the customer wants a bag. Councilmember Starosciak suggested that this maybe an idea that the City could promote. Councilmember Stephens commented that he has purchased a reusable bag that he keeps in his car, and he heard that City staff is planning to produce a reusable bag with a "We are San Leandro" logo to promote the community. Councilmember Prola commented on a community meeting he attended on March 20 held by Waste Management. A representative from Waste Management informed the group of actions the company is taking to address litter and noise complaints. He also announced that on Earth Day, April 12, from 10 a.m. to noon, Waste Management will be giving away free compost. Councilmember Prola reported that he attended the Bay Area Air Quality Management District's community meeting at the library, at which the risks of toxic air contaminants in the Bay Area were addressed. Councilmember Prola commended Debbie Pollart, Mike Bakaldin, and other staff members of the Public Works Services Department for their energy savings program that will help the City significantly reduce its PG&E bill. Mayor Santos commented that he attended the Baseball League Opening Days. He mentioned the new 2-1-1 phone system, which offers an easy to remember, single nationwide phone number for social service information. Mayor Santos announced that tonight's meeting would be adjourned in memory of Esperanza Abero, mother-in-law of Planning Commissioner Denise Abero. 13.
