MINUTES Page 10 <br />Ciry of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joust Meeting-Apri17, 2008 <br />Mayor Santos reported that he made the following contributions from his Community <br />Empowerment Funds: $100 to the San Leandro High School Musical Theater, $250 to <br />the Keep Music Rockin' Foundation, and $150 to Garfield Elementary School. <br />D. Reports on City Council Committees <br />1. Ciry and San Leandro Unified School District Liaison Committee Meeting of <br />March 20, 2008. Accepted as submitted. <br />Councilmember Souza congratulated the San Leandro School District for <br />reopening the San Leandro High School pool. <br />Vice Mayor Grant asked if staff could provide a report to the Council on the plans <br />for the $8 million in Prop 1D funds received by School District. Mr. Jermanis <br />indicated that he would obtain the information from the School District. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that he signed his daughter up for the San <br />Leandro Swim Team, and he will challenge the School District to come up with a <br />fundraising mechanism to complete the repairs on the High School pool. <br />Councilmember Starosciak suggested that for a future Liaison Committee <br />meeting, she would like to add to the agenda the City's current ordinance relating <br />to ice cream trucks in front of schools. She commented that today she observed <br />ice cream trucks in front of both Wilson and John Muir Schools, and she stressed <br />the importance of informing the principals of the ordinance's prohibitions. <br />12. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br />Councilmember Gregory commented on a letter of commendation he wrote to the Alameda <br />County Fire Department, which came to his aid on Good Friday when he suffered from <br />dehydration. He commended Captain Jeff Kramm, Engineer Brent Whalley and Firefighter <br />Daniel Montes for their efforts and assistance. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she accepted an award on behalf of the City from the <br />California Parks and Recreation Services (CPRS) District 3 for the San Leandro Aquatics <br />Center. She acknowledged the Task Force that worked many months to put the plan together, <br />and the leadership of Recreation and Human Services staff members Carolyn Knudtson, <br />Micki Cronin and Nicole Roa for getting the Aquatics Center up and running. <br />Councilmember Souza commented that she attended the 2008 Woman of the Year event <br />sponsored by Senator Ellen Corbett. Councilmember Souza expressed appreciation to the <br />DECA team for their presentation, and announced that the team members are fundraising for <br />their trip to Atlanta. <br />Councilmember Starosciak commented that she attended the Washington Manor Junior <br />League Opening Day, and acknowledged Mayor Santos and Vice Mayor Grant for attending <br />the Floresta Baseball League Opening Day.
