MINUTES Page 2 <br />City of San Leandro City Council, San Leandro Economic Development Agency, and San Leandro Redevelopment <br />Agency Joint Meeting-Apri121, 2008 <br />REGULAR MEETING 7:00 PM-City Council Chambers <br />1. CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was called to order at 7:01 p.m. <br />A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag <br />Councilmember Starosciak led the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br />B. Roll Call <br />PRESENT: Members Grant, Gregory, Prola, Souza, Starosciak, Stephens; <br />Mayor Santos <br />ABSENT: None <br />2. PRESENTATIONS/RECOGNITIONS <br />A. Proclamation Declaring Apri122, 2008 as "Arbor Day" in San Leandro. <br />Public Works Services Director Mike Bakaldin accepted the Arbor Day Proclamation <br />presented by Mayor Santos. Mr. Bakaldin commented that the City has received the <br />Tree City USA designation for 12 years in a row, and in 2005 and 2007 the City <br />received the Growth Award in recognition of its internal policies and training <br />procedures in support of its tree care program. <br />B. Presentation by Members of the San Leandro High School "San Leandro Academy of <br />Multi-Media (SLAM)" Recognizing the Students' Recent Fast for Non-Violence. <br />Phil Hargrave, Coordinator of the SLAM Academy at San Leandro High School, <br />informed the Council that the SLAM Academy offers its students classes with a media <br />focus. Twenty-eight of the SLAM students recently participated in a Fast for Non- <br />violence in honor of Cesar Chavez's 25-day fast. Mr. Hargrave described some of the <br />activities associated with the fast. <br />Mr. Hargrave and students from the SLAM Academy presented two short videos <br />created by the students, highlighting the non-violent activism of the late Harvey Milk <br />and Cesar Chavez. Mr. Hargrave stated that these and other videos are available for <br />viewing on the San Leandro High School website. <br />Mayor Santos announced another presentation that was not on the agenda. He <br />commented that on April 18, 2008, the City was awarded a 2008 Clean Air Award from <br />
