Alameda County Transportation Improvement Authority
Special Transportation for Seniors and People with Disabilities
2. Does your program provide ADA equivalent service to those outside the ADA
service corridor in your jurisdiction? East Bay Paratransit provides service to all
parts of San Leandro.
3. If MSL gap funding were to not become available in future years, what other
funding sources would you use? We would continue to look for funding
opportunities. In light of current City budget constraints it is not possible for the City
to subsidize the service.
4. To what extent have you explored and documented. other transportation options
for seniors and people with disabilities provided by non-profit organizations in
your community that might also close this service gap? Staff routinely assists
residents with their transportation needs, providing information about the variety of
transportation services available. Transportation options include: family, friends,
taxi, AC TransitlBart, East Bay Paratransit, residential facilities that provide
transportation and hospitals that offer shuttle services. Local non-profit resources are
very limited. Alzheimer's Services of the East Bay offers transportation to clients, as
well as, Stepping Stones an organziation that works with the developmentally
disabled. The variety of services is limited and does not meet the medical
transportation needs of our riders. Many of our riders do not have the resource of
family or friends for their transportation needs and cannot afford the expense of a
taxi. Although some residential facilities provide shuttle transportation, the majority
do not. Many of our riders cannot drive but do not qualify for EBP. AC Transit or
Bart are not always viable options due to distance to bus stops and lack of rider
mobility. By providing Out-of--Town Medical Trips, we are meeting a critical life
need which was identified through public input.
Note: We have requested additional MSL grant funds because the demand for the program
has continued to increase. In order to stay within the 2007-08 grant allocation of $75,000 we
are going to have to reduce the hours of service impacting the number of rides provided.
Date Annual Program Compliance report submitted to ACTIA: 12/31/07
Attach:
^ A copy of a governing body resolution authorizing submittal of the plan, or a statement
that the governing body has such an item on a forthcoming agenda.
^ Resolution or comments from the relevant local consumer advisory group.
^ Copies of agreements or memoranda of understanding for coordination.
G:\Oliver\Paratransit\FY 2008-09\MB Annual Program Application Cover FY0809.doc
Page 18 of 18
