FY 2008-10 Community Assistance Grant 2 May 1, 2008 <br />The following new applicants are recommended for funding: <br />Emergency Shelter Program <br />Provides shelter and support services for women and children who are victims of domestic <br />violence or homelessness. <br />• The agency fills a critical community need serving children and families. <br />• The agency has a track record of providing quality service. <br />• Funding homeless services is in keeping with the goals established in the Everyone <br />Home Plan. <br />Family Emer~enc~Shelter Coalition (FESCO) <br />Provides shelter and support services for families who are homeless (including males with <br />children). <br />• The agency fills a critical community need serving children and families and an unmet <br />need serving males with children. <br />• The agency has a track record of providing quality service. <br />• Funding homeless services is in keeping with the goals established in the Everyone <br />Home Plan. <br />Lincoln Child Center <br />The Kinship Support Services Program is a support program for relatives who are raising another <br />family member's children, thereby keeping children within their families, communities and <br />culture. <br />• The agency fills a critical growing and unmet community need. <br />• The agency has a track record of providing quality public service. <br />San Leandro Adult School Free Childcare <br />Program to remove barriers to education by providing free childcare to low income families <br />while parents earn a GED, high school diploma, obtain job training skills or learn English as a <br />Second Language (ESL). <br />• The agency is a San Leandro based organization. <br />• The agency fills a critical community need serving children and families. <br />• The agency has a track record of providing quality public service. <br />Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center <br />Provides comprehensive primary care and support services to the medically uninsured, low- <br />income, limited English proficient population in southern Alameda County. <br />• The agency fills an unmet community need. <br />• The agency has a track record of providing quality public service. <br />The following applicants are not recommended for funding: <br />East B ~ Innovations <br />The agency serves the developmentally disabled and proposed a program to train staff for <br />emergency preparedness. <br />• The City already provides support for non-profit emergency preparedness through the <br />CARD program (Collaborating Agencies Responding to Disaster). <br />• As funding is limited, the Commission gave higher priority to basic needs services. <br />Seventh Step Foundation <br />Provides residential, sober living and case management services to parolees. <br />• A small number of San Leandro residents would be served through the grant. <br />
