ACTION ITEMS <br /> <br />Public comments are limited to 3 minutes per speaker per item, subject to adjustment by the <br />Mayor. <br /> <br />A. Matter of Presentation on the Green Building Program and Consideration of an <br />Ordinance Adopting a New Chapter 3-19 of the San Leandro Municipal Code Requiring <br />New Buildings Valued at $3 Million (integrates green building strategies in City <br />buildings and allows the City to be eligible to continue to receive Import Mitigation <br />grant funds from StopWaste.Org). <br /> <br />staff has developed recommendations for actions the City can take to address climate <br />change. He introduced Planner III Sally Barros, who is trained as a LEED Accredited <br />Professional through the US Green Building Council. Ms. Barros gave a short <br />PowerPoint presentation describing the principles of green building, LEED standards, <br />uilding program and the Green Building Ordinance proposed for <br />adoption. Ms. Barros announced that a builder and developer forum for green building <br />will be held on May 28, 2008 at the Ohlone College Newark Campus. <br /> <br /> current waste diversion rate is 67%, <br />above the county average of 64%. He noted that the diversion goal for 2010 is 75%. <br /> <br />Building program. She commented that StopWaste.Org is discussing the introduction <br />of green building codes. <br /> <br />Councilmember Stephens commended Ms. Barros and the staff for bringing the <br />ordinance forward for consideration. He noted that as future buildings are constructed <br />in a more attractive, functional, healthy, sustainable manner, they will be more <br />economical and efficient, and improve our overall quality of life. Councilmember <br />Stephens expressed support for the ordinance. <br /> <br />Building program. He stated that he hoped the City would strive for the gold LEED <br />rating. <br /> <br />Councilmember Gregory thanked Ms. Barros for her leadership in the area of green <br />building. He asked how the Council could help staff to educate residents on using green <br />building principles for residential construction. Councilmember Gregory asked whether <br /> <br /> <br />Ms. Barros acknowledged StopWaste.Org for providing the training and support for <br />staff. She reported that StopWaste.Org would be introducing a remodeling guideline, <br />which will be implemented by Build it Green as a rating system for residential <br /> <br />
