Services Foundation, helping the schools with projects, and others. Staff will provide Ms.
Greer with contact information for the City's Housing Office, Senior Services programs
manager, and the local Senior Services Foundation. Committee members recommended Ms.
Greer and Ms. How also make presentations to the Human Services and Senior Commissions
to get their input.
2. Discussion Regarding Mayor's Travel to Sister and Friendship Cities
Mayor Santos commented that this discussion item should include Councilmember travel to
Sister and Friendship Cities as well.
Mayor Santos led the discussion with a review of the history of the previous Mayor's
Community Fund and how that was intended to provide financial support for Sister City
activities. Travel to a Sister City for former Mayor Shelia Young and former
Councilmember Gordon Galvan had been funded out of the Mayor's Community Fund. Now
that the Fund no longer exists, no financial provisions are made for official visits to Sister
and/or Friendship Cities. He asked that thought be given as to how these trips will be funded
in the future.
Committee members and staff discussed possible policy recommendation. One option would
be for the Mayor or Councilmembers anticipating travel to ask for funding approval by the
City Council. Another option would be for the Mayor or Councilmembers to use their
existing Transportation and Training budgeted funds and forego attendance at a conference.
Staff will draft possible policy language for the Committee to review at a future meeting.
3. Public Comments
Vic Entrikin from Stepping Stones proposed that the City consider contracting with his
agency for community cleaning activities. As an example, he has observed some retail store
owners failing to clean their storefronts of litter. He has also noticed that the City's street
sweepers are not able to do a thorough cleaning when cars are parked at the curbs on street
sweeping days. His clients would be able to clean in retails area and along curbs and gutters
on street sweeping days.
Staff will contact the Public Works Director to see if there is an opportunity to augment the
downtown cleaning program already in place, or other opportunities to make use of Stepping
Stones services.
Mayor Santos proposed "at risk" youth in the community might also be able to be part of
such a project.
4. Discussion Regarding Appointment of a Committee Chair
The Committee unanimously approved Mayor Santos as the Committee Chair.
2
