CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE: July 7, 2008
TO: John Jermanis, City Manager
BY: Marian Handa, City Clerkv`
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Jo . Jermanis
1
Ci anager
RESOLUTION DECLARING RESULTS OF GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION
HELD ON TUESDAY, JUNE 3, 2008
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
A resolution declaring the results of the June 3, 2008 General Municipal Election for the
City of San Leandro is presented to the City Council for consideration and approval.
BACKGROUND
On January 22, 2008, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2008-008, providing for
the holding of the General Municipal Election to be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, for
the election of three City Councilmembers for Districts 2, 4 and 6. This resolution also
requested that the Alameda County Board of Supervisors permit the consolidation of the
election with the Statewide Primary Election and requested that the Alameda County
Registrar of Voters (ROV) provide services related to the conduct of the election.
The election was held on June 3, 2008. As required by the Elections Code of the State of
California, an official canvass has been performed and a Statement of Election Results
has been prepared by the ROV and submitted to the City. The Statement lists the final
tally of votes received by each candidate as determined by the official canvass performed
by the ROV of the returns of all votes cast in the City of San Leandro.
The Statement of Election Results shows that candidates received a majority of votes
(50% + 1) in the City Council District 4 and District 6 races. The successful candidates
for District 4, Joyce Rutledge Starosciak, and District 6, Jim Prola, are declared elected.
No candidate for the office of City Council District 2 received a majority of votes cast for
that office, and a runoff election will be held to determine the person elected.
