School Board Representatives to Recreation and Parks Commission <br />City Manager John Jermanis provided the history on the School Board representative <br />positions on the Recreation and Parks Commission. Mr. Jermanis noted that, at the time <br />the representative positions were created over 30 years ago, there were no Council and <br />School Board liaison committees, and the interaction between the Council and School <br />Board is more direct now than it was in the past. He also noted that it has been difficult for <br />the School Boards to comply with the Municipal Code requirement to provide the names of <br />three individuals for the Council's consideration. Mr. Jermanis clarified that staff is not <br />recommending that any representative be removed from the commission; rather, the <br />number of commissioners could be reduced through attrition, or the process could be <br />changed to allow the School Boards to provide just one name for Council's consideration. <br />Chair Young asked whether it still makes sense for the School Boards to continue to put <br />names forward. <br />Committee Member Badger noted the difficulty for the School Districts in identifying <br />appropriate individuals and providing their information for the Council's nomination. He <br />stated, though, that he would not be interested in changing the process to allow the School <br />Board to submit only one name. Committee Member Badger pointed out that the <br />Recreation and Parks Commission representative position seems to be a duplication of <br />effort, since the District Superintendents receive information directly from the City and <br />School Board liaison committees. <br />Mr. Jermanis suggested that the matter could be brought to the City and School Board <br />liaison committees for discussion. <br />June 15, 2005 <br />1. Continued Discussion Regarding Appointments to City Boards and Commissions <br />The Committee reviewed the suggested revisions to Section XV-Boards and Commissions of <br />the Council Members Handbook and made additional changes. <br />City Manager John Jermanis addressed the subject of the School Board representatives to the <br />Recreation and Parks Commission and suggested some alternatives to the present system of <br />
