Teachers have reported that the students at SLHS have been helped by the Counseling Interns at the
campus
The quality of services seems to be broad and accessible. Counseling services aren't as easily available
to the very low income poor because the funding is probably limited, and the medical clinic is open
only once per week, but the quality of services provided has always seemed to be high
Management and Staff (please include a description of how you came to have this opinion).
no comment
Excellent. I have had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a number of staff over the years.
I work primarily with management staff. Rose is an amazing person. She is bright, intuitive, persistent,
knowledgeable about all facets of nonprofits/politics business, and a true partner in all aspects of the
word. Rose is a wonderful mentor and role model.
Direct experience with the organization
This is a formative impression, but I wish that the staff responded to e-mails and phone messages more
promptly. Communication has been a bit of an issue. In managing a large grant, I'd like to improve
communication with DSFRC. Additionally, both Counseling Interns had no idea that they were
funded by a violence reduction and prevention grant, and that I was the manager of the grant. This is
troublesome, to an extent--not that I want to control their work--but I'd them to fit their work into a
larger context. Again, I need better communication with DSFRC Counseling Intern management.
Not very familiar with how the staff is organized now after several restructures, nor am I familiar with
many/most of the managers other than Rose and Dawn Valadez (and Eowyn who has now left). Rose
and her Devleopment team do a great job of accessing public exposure for the agency's needs and
pulling local resources into the agency.
What other opinions about or suggestions for DSFRC would you like to share with us?
I am interested in again trying to bring us together (FRCS in AC) to see what we might be able to
accomplish collectively that none of us can do alone. It is just a matter of finding the time :-) to do that!
Good luck with your strategic planning!
Davis Street provides an important safety net for the community. Many people in Castro Valley who come
to my office have the opinion that it is mainly for San Leandro residents, though I know a number of clients
come from San Lorenzo and unincorporated areas. It would be good to clarify the service area for us and
for our clients.
Keep up the great work
Davis Street should plan for succession. Davis Street should evaluate it's geographic focus
In pursuing a grant, one community member reported negative opinions about DSFRC. Obviously, this
impacts how the organization is perceived, particularly for new funding initiatives.
None at this time --partly because I'm so ]ate already in returning this survey!
Sustainability Study: bavis Street Family Resource Center - 4/08 Page 84 of 96
