CITY OF SAN LEANDRO
STAFF REPORT
DATE: August 27, 2008
TO: Stephen L. Hollister, Interim City Manager
FROM: Perry Carter, Interim Finance Director~2
BY: Don Brockman, Purchasing Agent °~
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Step en L. Hollister
Interim City Manager
RESOLUTION DECLARING AS SURPLUS ELEVEN (11) VEHICLES, ONE (1) PIECE OF
HEAVY EQUIPMENT, THREE (3) PIECES OF EQUIPMENT AND ONE (1)
MOTORCYCLE; AND AUTHORIZING THE SALE THEREOF AT PUBLIC AUCTION.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends Council declare certain vehicles, equipment and a motorcycle as surplus and
authorize sale of said vehicles and equipment at public auction.
BACKGROUND
There are sixteen (16) pieces of City equipment ready for sale via public auction. Currently out-
of-service, the items are being stored at the Public Works Service Center.
All vehicles recommended for surplus, including the motorcycle have met the criteria of the
City's vehicle replacement policy. This includes the number of miles on each vehicle, increasing
maintenance costs, and other factors. In addition, each unit is fully depreciated.
The piece of heavy equipment (1980 Caterpillar 910 Front End Loader) and the three smaller
pieces of equipment have all reached the end of their useful lives and meet the replacement
criteria. They are fully depreciated as well.
Section 1-6-500 of the San Leandro Municipal Code, authorizes the purchasing agent to sell
surplus items at public auction. If staff's recommendation is approved, a public auction will be
scheduled for November 8, 2008. Public notice of the auction and auction preview will be
posted on the City's web site and in the Daily Review.
Current City Council Policy
Not Applicable
Previous City Council Action(s)
Not Applicable
