Green Update 2 October 6, 2008 <br />soliciting community input in various forms, including public workshops, the formation of a <br />community task force and business and homeowner surveys. <br />To achieve regional consistency in these efforts, the City is working as part of the Alameda <br />County Climate Protection Project. A Climate Summit for elected officials is being organized for <br />all Alameda County jurisdictions, in coordination with StopWaste.Org. The City of San Leandro <br />will host the meeting at the San Leandro Main Library. The tentative date for this gathering is <br />January 23, 2009. <br />CITY PROGRAMS <br />The following is a list of our recent accomplishments aswell asplans for the future. The list <br />encompasses programs from several City departments, including the City Managers Office, <br />Public Works, Engineering, Community Development, Finance, and other City staff. Members <br />of all of these departments are participating in a Climate Task Force and contributed information <br />contained in the program list. <br />The list also includes several private sector initiatives that have come to the attention of City <br />staff, but is not an all-inclusive list of private sector actions. A progress report for the BAAQMD <br />grant in a future phase will involve a survey of private sector activities and will be presented to <br />the City Council at that time. <br />The following list of environmentally sustainable programs is presented without particular order <br />of importance. Acost-benefit analysis of the various Sustainability measures will be conducted <br />for the BAAQMD grant at a future date. <br />ENERGY CONSERVATION/AIR QUALITY <br />Streetlights <br />• Green and red traffic lights have been switched to more energy efficient Light-Emitting <br />Diode (LED) traffic signals. <br />• Yellow LED traffic signals are installed at approximately 25% of the intersections. The <br />remainder of the switch is expected to be completed in approximately 1.5 to 2 years. <br />ABAG Energywatch <br />• Last fall, the Public Works Department began participating in the Association of Bay <br />Area Government (ABAG) Energy Watch program. The program includes free energy <br />audits and subsidies for retrofits within City facilities. <br />• As part of this program, Fire Stations No. 12, No. 13, and the South Offices building <br />have had a lighting retrofit completed for an estimated yearly energy savings of 22,258 <br />Kilowatt-hours (KWh) and a Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission savings of approximately 5 <br />tons. <br />Facilities <br />• Phase I of athree-part Civic Center heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) and water <br />heating system upgrade was completed in late 2007. This phase began in December of <br />2006 and the new boilers were brought online in April of 2007. Phase I included <br />
