The few real suggestions included:
• Run the shuttle on weekends
• Always use the big bus in the morning.
• Make the schedule consistent
• Offer multiple routes
• Extend the route beyond San Leandro
Conclusions and Recommendations
Shuttle riders continue to be quite satisfied with the service. With one-third of the riders low-
income, and many more on the margin, it's clear that LINKS is providing a vital service to the
community. Ridership is increasing; nearly one-half of the respondents say that the bus is
uncomfortably full at least once or twice a week, and one in ten say that the bus occasionally
passes them because it's too full.
Adding more buses, or ensuring that only the large buses are used could resolve some of these
concerns. However, this would require additional funding. As it serves a demonstrably low-
income population, LINKS should pursue funding sources which focus on the low-income
population, such as the Lifeline program.
Valerie Brock Consulting 14 June, 1008
