CITY OF SAN LEANDRO MEMORANDUM DATE: October 8, 2008 TO: Business and Housing Development Committee FROM: Cynthia Battenberg, Business Development Manager VIA: Elmer Penaranda, Senior Development Specialist SUBJECT: Business Improvement District (BID) Advisory Board Member Recommendation SiTMMARY AND RECOMNINDATION There is vacancy in the five-member West San Leandro Shuttle Business Improvement District Advisory Board. This is the Board that reviews the annual report of the LINKS Shuttle service supported by the West San Leandro Shuttle Business Improvement District and makes recommendations regarding annual increases to the assessment. The current Board members are: Perry Carter, Interim Finance Director; Uche Udemezue, Engineering and Transportation Director; Dora Wong, Coca Cola Bottling Company; and John Dlugosh, Dlugosh Cabinets. The fifth member and his company, Rolls Wood Group, have left the City of San Leandro, thus creating the vacancy. In the beginning of September the City mailed letters recruiting interested persons from all of the businesses that pay the BID fee. The top 42 employers within the BID received a letter from the Interim City Manager and the remainder of the businesses paying the BID fee received a letter from the Office of Business Development. (Businesses within the BID employing five or fewer, landlords, home occupations, and non-profit companies are exempt from the BID fees.) The City received interest from five individuals. Four of the five were interviewed by staff. One of the candidate's business only employs three persons, thus is exempt from the BID fee, leaving three applicants for consideration. 1. Ida Marmon, President, Nashional Office Furniture, 2400 Merced Street 2. Geza Paulovitz, Chief Financial Officer, Eric F. Anderson, 1066 Beecher Street 3. Rich Wahl, Marketing Director, Mr. Plastics Inc., 2756 Alvarado Street All three felt this position would be a good way to serve the community, and that they could be available for the one to two meetings a year.
