When Mr. Bolinger went back to planning we ran into a problem where the upstairs' loft
did not meet the code for height and livable space. In order to meet the code the upper
portion of the building would have to be raised one foot. Building department approved
the proposed solution but it had to be approved by the Historic Commission. The added
foot would not change the exterior of the building it would just give it more height. In
addition there was not enough egress which meant the upstairs window for fire code had
to be large enough for a person to exit during an emergency.
Mr. Bolinger spoke to Mr. Bohne on the phone in November where Mr. Bohne stated " I
don't think their going to buy this, you have brought so many issues to us, and made so
many changes on several occasions. Now you are bringing more issues to us again. This
is like the third or fourth time you've come back to us." In the end we were scheduled
for the meeting on January 15, 2008.
Just before our project was the restoration of a tiled fountain at the Casa Peralta. Mr.
Bohne started out by saying he had gotten a "nasty letter" (one of the names on the letter
was former Mayor Shiela Young). Mr. Bohne proceeded to read the letter aloud; the tone
of the writer was fiustration as they were under the impression that the Historical
Commissioners were taking the responsibility of the fountain restoration.
As a bystander it was apparent that each party thought the other was going to take on the
project. Mr. Bohne agreed to take on the project stating he did not mind doing it.
However Ms. Denise Bownds took issue that this project was being "dumped" into their
laps. At which point she went on at length indicating how displeased she was and how it
was not their responsibility.
Following the tiled fountain restoration was our project. A comment was made which I
found quite offensive and somewhat derogatory by Ms. Donna Reed "Next thing you
know she'll (referring to me) be selling tickets". Ms. Bownds stated that she has been
more than accommodating to me asking for one thing or another that she really did not
agree with but did it anyway. Ms. Bownds made reference to me making so many
requests.
However, when I asked if they did not want me at the meeting, she responded. It's not
what she meant at all of course we want you to come back. Mr. Fredrick Reicker stated it
was out of "principle" for why he did not want to approve the project.
Ms. Bownd stated if they give me a foot then the next person will want a foot and a half.
Mr. Bolinger asked if the decisions were made on each individual project versus one
project setting precedence for another. At which she responded each was looked at
individually however Ms. Bownds continued to have a problem that if my project were
approved then other people would expect theirs to be as well since they did it for me.
,The tone of the meeting was that I was there far too frequently making requests to
improve the property. The message of me being there too many times indicates that now
DECEIVED
N UV 14 RE'D
