Cooke, Principal
SUBJECT PROJECT/PROJECT D
Manager
~~~~
0
APPROVED AND
FORWARDED
TO CITY COUNCIL
Stephen L. Hollister
Interim City Manager
RESOLUTION RENAMING THE PORTION OF HUDSON LANE TO POLAR WAY,
SOUTHWEST OF SAN LEANDRO BOULEVARD.
SUMMARY AND RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends adoption of a resolution renaming Hudson Lane to Polar Way for the portion
of Hudson Lane southwest of San Leandro Boulevard.
BACKGROUND '
Analysis
Dynamic Builders, on behalf of its client, Preferred Freezer Services (the company developing
the former Hudson Lumber site at 400 Hudson Lane), requested that the portion of Hudson Lane
southwest of San Leandro Boulevard be renamed to Polar Way. The intent is to improve the
branding of the new business that will be occupying a new 248,185 square foot freezer building.
The segment of Hudson Lane proposed for renaming is a public at-grade railroad crossing that is
eighty (80) feet in length and forty (40) feet in width and is the sole access point from San
Leandro Boulevard to 400 Hudson Lane. This segment of Hudson Lane serves no other parcel,
so input was not solicited from surrounding property owners regarding the change in street name.
The name "Polar Way" was approved by the Planning Department of Alameda County
Community Development Agency, who notified the following agencies of the street name
change: Alameda County Fire Department; Alameda County Sheriffs Department; Lawrence
Livermore National Laboratory Fire Dispatch; and the San Leandro Postmaster of the United
States Postal Service CUSPS). The developer will install additional signage as a part of the
public improvements proposed for the site.
