CITY AND SAN LEANDRO UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT LIAISON COMMITTEE <br />January 15, 2009 <br />4:00 - 5:30 p.m. <br />San Leandro City Hall <br />835 East 14th Street <br />San Leandro, California <br />(Sister Cities Gallery) <br />HIGHLIGHTS <br />Committee Members: Mayor Tony Santos, Council Member Ursula Reed, Council Member <br />Michael Gregory, District Board Chair Michael Katz-Lacabe, Board <br />Member Lisa Hague, Board Member Morgan Mack-Rose <br />City Staff Present: City Manager Steve Hollister, Interim Assistant City Manager Jacqui <br />Diaz, Recreation and Community Services Director Carolyn Knudtson, <br />Business Development Manager Cynthia Battenberg <br />SLUSD Staff Present: Superintendent Christine Lim, Assistant Superintendent Song Chin- <br />Bendib, Facilities Manager Mike Murphy, High School Facilities Manager <br />Greg Dyer <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:02 p.m. by Board Chair Katz-Lacabe. <br />1. Discussion regarding Agenda for the February 9, 2009 Joint City Council-District <br />Board Meeting <br />City Manager Steve Hollister suggested that the agenda include a discussion on growth <br />projections and that both the City's housing consultant and the Housing Manager would be in <br />attendance; he requested that the District's demographer be in attendance. The discussion would <br />focus on growth impacts and issues (e.g. facility needs in the future). He noted that a letter had <br />been sent to the superintendent requesting this information to be made available at the upcoming <br />joint meeting. Mr. Hollister also suggested that both bodies present their current and anticipated <br />budget/fiscal situations. He further offered that the cost-sharing agreement related to the 9t <br />Grade Academy could be discussed at this meeting. Superintendent Lim agreed to provide the <br />information requested, but was unsure if the demographer would be available. <br />Mayor Santos stated that he may have stimulus funding information available by February 9tl' <br />and mentioned the federal budget cycle. Member Mack-Rose asked if there were opportunities <br />for City/District joint use projects to be funded by any federal stimulus funds. Mr. Hollister <br />identified the list of potential projects for federal funds, which included the San Leandro High <br />School (SLHS) pool as an example. There was general discussion regarding use of federal funds <br />and the different types of funding allocations available; the importance of the 9th Grade Academy <br />and other important joint use projects, and the housing requirements imposed on the City.
