DRAFT MINUTES Page 5 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting~Tanuary 20, 2009 <br />City Manager Hollister reported on the City and San Leandro Unified School District <br />Liaison Committee meeting on January 15, at which the group discussed the City's <br />proposed contribution to the 9"' Grade Campus and Gymnasium project. The Committee <br />unanimously recommended moving forward with the proposal. It is anticipated that the <br />City, Redevelopment Agency and School Board will take the necessary actions at their <br />joint meeting on February 9, 2009. <br />B. Update on Budget. <br />Mr. Hollister commented that at the Finance Committee meeting held earlier today, it <br />was reported that City revenues continue to deteriorate, and the budget deficit is <br />projected to be approximately $7.5 million dollars. The Committee reviewed the <br />proposed departmental budget cuts, and will receive further detail at its February <br />meeting. Staff hopes to have a preliminary budget to present to the Council in March, <br />which will be part of a three-year balanced budget plan. The federal stimulus package <br />may have some effect on the City's budget situation. <br />Mr. Hollister indicated that the tobacco control issues will be referred to the City Council <br />Rules and Communications Committee for further discussion. <br />The City Council recessed from 8:20 p.m. to 8:31 p.m. <br />7. AMENDMENT OF CONSENT CALENDAR <br />City Councihnembers or staff have an opportunity at this time to request that an item be <br />removed from the Consent Calendar for the presentation of a staff report or other special <br />consideration. Members of the Public may request the opportunity to address the City <br />Council regarding items remaining on the Consent Calendar by filling out a speaker card and <br />submitting it to the City Clerk prior to the calling of Item 7, Amendment of Consent <br />Calendar. Items remaining on the Consent Calendar will be considered for approval under <br />one motion. <br />No amendment to Consent Calendar. <br />8. CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Consent Calendar items are considered for approval by the City Council with one single <br />action. As described above in Item 7, Amendment of Consent Calendar, the City Council <br />may remove items from the Consent Calendar for purposes of presentation or discussion. <br />Members of the public who have requested to address the Council regarding items remaining <br />on the Consent Calendar may do so for up to 3 minutes per item with a maximum of 5 <br />minutes for all items. Items listed on the Consent Calendar are deemed to have been read by <br />title. <br />
