MINUTES Page 2 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting-February 2, 2009 <br />Councilmember Gregory commented that his commitment to addressing health care <br />disparities was inspired by Supervisor Alice Lai-Bitker's "Health is not just Health <br />Care" initiative. He also visited the City of Somerville, Massachusetts, and learned <br />about their Shape Up Somerville program. Councilmember Gregory reported that he <br />has attempted to develop a similar program in San Leandro, in partnership with the <br />schools, but with limited success. The program received a $25,000 grant from Kaiser <br />for aneight-week afterschool program, but the timeframe was too short to reap real <br />benefit. <br />Councilmember Gregory commented on the health benefits to the community of <br />participation in the program. He displayed the 50 Million Pound Challenge website, <br />www.50millionpounds.com, demonstrating some of its features, and stated that he <br />would like San Leandro to have a city team, and to challenge other cities. <br />Mayor Santos commented that participation in the 50 Million Pound Challenge would <br />not require much staff support, since the tools and information are available on the <br />website. He suggested that Councilmember Gregory look into the program further. <br />Councilmembers Reed and Souza commented that it sounded like a good program. <br />3. PUBLIC HEARINGS-CITY COUNCIL <br />Public Hearing Comments are limited to 5 minutes per speaker, subject to adjustment by the <br />Mayor. When you address the City Council, you should fill out a speaker card and submit it <br />to the City Clerk so the order of speakers may be determined and an official record of names <br />and addresses obtained. <br />None. <br />4. The public is invited to make comments on items of public interest NOT <br />listed on the Agenda. <br />Marilyn Winkler, San Leandro resident, addressed the City Council, regarding the <br />proposed Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) project near the San Leandro BART Station. <br />Ms. Winkler expressed opposition to the project, which would be located near I-880 and the <br />
