DRAFT MINUTES <br /> Page 9 <br />February 17, 2009 <br />City of San Leandro City Council and San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting <br /> <br /> <br />update on the status of the appointment of the San Lorenzo School District representative to <br />the Recreation and Parks Commission. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos commented on the Finance Committee meeting held earlier today, at which the <br />Committee received a sobering report on the proposed budget cuts by City departments. He <br />reiterated his caution to the Council that they consider the impacts to staff and the budget <br />when making work or program requests. <br /> <br />Councilmember Prola commented that on February 6, he attended a rally for education at <br />Memorial Park. Regarding the February 9 City Council and San Leandro School Board joint <br />meeting and work session, Councilmember Prola commented that he would like the City and <br />School District to collaborate on more joint use projects when the economy improves. He <br />Green Corridor <br />Partnership. <br /> <br />Councilmember Starosciak thanked staff for locking up Stenzel Park, noting that this action <br />has reduced calls for service to the Police Department. She requested that the Council <br />consider a policy to keep dogs off designated playfields. It was the consensus of the Council <br />to refer the matter to the Rules and Communications Committee. Councilmember Starosciak <br />commented on recent City events she attended, including the Lunar New Year celebration at <br />the Main Library and the welcome reception for new City Manager Steve Hollister. She <br />reported that the Girl Scouts of Assumption and Bancroft Middle Schools recently toured the <br />they had a great time. Councilmember Starosciak also <br />toured the San Leandro History Museum with her daughter. She gave kudos for the great <br />staff work over the past couple of weeks. <br /> <br />Councilmember Reed commented that she was recently a guest on the <br />show, which will be aired on Channel 28 on Saturday, February 28 at noon. On the show, she <br />confessed to the Mayor that she is a political groupie, and she circulated among the Council a <br />picture of her taken with Lieutenant Governor John Garamendi. Councilmember Reed <br />announced that the African American Business Council will hold its Career Day at San <br />Leandro High School on Thursday, February 19, beginning at 8:30 a.m., and she invited the <br />Council to attend. <br /> <br />Mayor Santos made additional comments on the Finance Committee meeting, and the cuts to <br />City programs and services that are proposed to be made in order to close the budget gap. <br />Mayor Santos reported that he is the delegate to the East Bay Regional Communications <br />System Authority (EBRCSA) from the Alameda County Mayors Conference. He was unable <br />to attend the last meeting due to a conflict with the U.S. Mayors Conference; however, he was <br />told by EBRCSA Executive Director Bill McCammon that the Authority is still trying to raise <br />the $60 million needed for the system. Mayor Santos stated that he would provide the <br />would be adjourned in memory of Dino Markette, a 22-year City employee who worked part- <br />time in the Library and Recreation Departments. Dino was 42 years old, and he leaves behind <br />a wife and four children. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
