Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 6
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency joint Meeting -March 1, 1999
7. NEW BUSINESS
A. Matter of Re-Nomination of Member to Library-Historical Commission (District
3) -- Caryl Ann Symons. (1017)
-- Motion
B. Matter of Re-Nomination of Member to Planning Commission (District 3) -- Toe
Collier. (1018)
-- Motion
_Minute Order No. 99-9, Matter of Re-Nominations of Members to Boards and
Commissions. (1017/1018)
The City Council approved, by one motion and vote, both of the re-nominations
of Members to Boards and Commissions, as listed under New Business, Items
7.A and 7.B:
--Caryl Ann Symons to the Library-Historical Commission (District 3)
--Joe Collier to the Planning Commission (District 3)
M/S/C Nardine and Loet~ler. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0
C. Matter of Creation of and Appointment to General Plan Advisory Committee
(GPAC) (provides recommendations from the City Council Ad Hoc Committee to
Create and Appoint Citizens to a General Plan Advisory Committee [GPAC] in
order to gain the input and advice of a diverse and representative group of people
living and working in San Leandro).
Steve Emslie gave the staff report; and it was noted that, although there was not a
good response from younger persons interested in serving on the GPAC, staff did
utilize the Youth Advisory Commission (YAC) and did a youth outreach to get
younger persons involved.
Mayor Young commented that, in addition to each Council Member making an
appointment to the GPAC, she would suggest each Council Member select an
Alternate to replace anyone that may drop out of the process. The balance of the
Council agreed to that suggestion.
Additionally, it was suggested by Council Member Loeffier that staff advertise the
GPAC Meetings to the high schools through their Government Classes.
Council Member Lothrop suggested Council Members be given copies of the
applications of those persons who were not selected to be a part of the GPAC, so
they may be considered as Council Member appointees and/or Alternates.
