Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />April 19, 1999 <br />Page 5 <br />C. Dorothy Partridge, 1962 Boaer Court, Representing the League of Women <br />Voters, read a letter from the League of Women Voters of the Eden Area <br />regarding participation in the Children's Memorial Flag Observance. She indicated <br />the 4~' Friday in April has been declared a Nationwide observance day. San <br />Leandro has been asked to fly the flag on April 23, 1999, and in all future years on <br />the 4`~ Friday in April. A ceremony will be held in Oakland at noon in front of the <br />Administration Building to acknowledge children who have died from violence. <br />D. Marcia Johnson, 794 Estudillo Avenue, read a letter to the City Council <br />regarding a proposal before Caltrans to permit trucks on Interstate 580 through <br />Oakland and San Leandro. She indicated the MacArthur-Estudillo Gateway <br />Association (MEGA) is sharing this information with other Legislators and <br />associations, and they urge the City Council to take action on this issue. She <br />further indicated MEGA is prepared to be part of amulti-pronged effort to prevent <br />Caltrans from lifting the ban that has kept trucks out of our residential <br />neighborhoods. <br />E. Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, addressed the City Council regarding the <br />lack of control of traffic in San Leandro; asked why the Open Forum was removed <br />from the Agenda and stated he feels it should be reinstituted. He suggested that <br />Council Comments should be moved to the end of the meeting so the Council can <br />get on with the Agenda. He further commented on development in San Leandro <br />and how it is affecting the City, along with increased traffic. <br />F. Harold Perez, 2052 Vestal Court, addressed the City Council regarding <br />telephone poles that are being removed and have new poles tied to them for <br />support. He indicated they are a real eyesore. He further commented on traffic <br />circulation to Walmart and said there is no way to get into that shopping center <br />from Timothy Drive. He also commented on the difficulty for pedestrians crossing <br />Davis Street. He concluded by commenting on continuous airplane noise. <br />G. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the City Council, stating he <br />does not agree with the City Attorney's comments regarding speaker cards. <br />People should be able to speak before, during, and after the fact of any item. <br />H. Justin Agrella, 1231 - 14$t` Avenue, addressed the City Council and indicated <br />today is Patriot's Day, and Paul Revere did not have to fill out a speaker's card. <br />He commented further that he does not agree with requiring speaker cards for 7 <br />people. <br />
