Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 3
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting -- May 17,1999
This being the time and place for the Public Hearing on the above matter, Hanson
Hom, Planning Manager, summarized the proposal of Trumark Companies.
The Applicant, Mike Maples, representing Trumark, gave a presentation on their
proposal and urged the City Council to support staffs recommendation to send
this matter back to the Planning Commission.
The City Council asked questions and expressed concerns with the price range of
the proposed housing, traffic on Fremont Avenue, as well as acceleration and
deceleration lanes, and the need to take a close look at the traffic plan for this
proposal.
The Hearing was then opened to the public.
A. Barbara Tierney, 3965 Mission Way, addressed the City Council regarding
various traffic concerns on Fremont Avenue and Floresta Boulevard, including
truck traffic related to this proposal. She added that there will be children
living in these homes, parents will have to take their kids to Monroe School in
cars, and traffic in front of the school is very congested already.
B. Howard Kerr, 15388 Norton Street, addressed the City Council in
opposition to the proposed development. He would rather see pazks and/or a
sports complex located there instead.
C. Gloria Covarelli, 3412 Del Monte Way, addressed the City Council in
support of the proposed Planned Development. She feels homes would be a
better use than what is there currently. She is also in support of a sound wall.
She does not believe the traffic will be any heavier; and, in fact, she believes
the traffic will slow down.
D. Yvette Rice, 13160 Neptune Drive, addressed the City Council in opposition
to the proposed Planned Development. She feels the houses are too close
together and there aze no play areas in the yards. She added that there is no
room to have any personal space in a development of this kind. She continued
by commenting on the impact on local schools and said the Council should be
supportive of the Planning Commission's decision to deny the project.
E. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159` Avenue, addressed the City Council with
concerns regarding additional traffic in the neighborhood. He also commented
that, if the School Boazd does not move forwazd quickly with plans to build
the two, new schools they need, they are not going to have a place to build
them.
