r Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 13 San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Special Meeting -- June 14, 1999 Council Member Loeffler made a motion that the City Council take the necessary steps to get out of the garbage business. The City Attorney explained that the City Council had given direction, last fall, to bring back to the City Council the means and the process by which the Council can examine the privatization of the garbage service. That is in progress now. Council Member Loeffler withdrew his motion. Council Member Lothrop requested staff provide a report to the City Council regazding the role of the Citizens' Ad Hoc Committee on Refuse Services. Vice Mayor Galvan explained the City Council has not officially decided to privatize services at this point; and there is an Advisory Committee in place to take a look at the numbers and levels of service, as well as the community's desires and expectations. He stated there is plenty for the Ad Hoc Committee to do. Council Member Glaze stated the Ad Hoc Committee can serve a very useful service. He added that he would hope the Committee's input would be part of negotiations. He feels, if the City does privatize garbage service, the issues relating to the level of service and what we would be asking a new vendor to provide, would be important for the Committee to discuss and to provide recommendations to the City Council.. 6. ADJOURN Brief discussion ensued regarding whether an additional Work Session would be needed prior to taking final action on the budget June 21, 1999.
