Bob Britton, 5240 Crane Avenue, Castro Valley, addressed the Ciry Council as
a member of the Professional & Technical Engineers, Local 21, and stated his
support of organized labor to the employees that haul the City's garbage. He
stated that, if the City chooses to contract the garbage service out, what may look
like a good deal today, may not be a good deal after the initial contract period
expires.
E. Tom Guarino, 262 Davis Street, Representing the San Leandro Chamber of
Commerce, addressed the City Council regarding the refuse issue on the Agenda.
He stated concerns regarding the impacts on restaurants in the community, noting
they are the most vulnerable. He urged extreme sensitivity to those businesses in
our community. He also commented that last week the Ciry celebrated
"Affordable Housing Week" and said the City Council needs to be sensitive to the
rates charged in the community. He asked who would be targeted, what revenue
would be generated, how those revenues would be expended, and what would be
the role of the recently appointed Task Force on Refuse.
F. Justin Agrella, 1231 - 148`s Avenue, addressed the City Council regarding the
proposed refuse rates and noted the City's rates are already higher than Waste
Management's rates. He feels this proposed increase would impact the senior
population greatly. He concluded by stating he hopes the City Council will move
forward with the proposed budget cuts and remain fiscally responsible. He would
rather see garbage service privatized.
G. Darlene Evans, 361 Bristol, addressed the City Council regarding afour-story
hotel to be built; the proposed tree preservation ordinance; the Alameda County
Fire Department and the lack of public awareness of their services; and garbage
and recycling services, indicating that we need to meet our projected goals with
respect to recycling.
H.
