Vice Mayor Galvan, with respect to comments made about the Citizens Ad <br />Hoc Committee on Refuse Services, commented it is important that staff <br />communicate the goals to the Committee. He further commended Tom <br />Guarino and the Committee that worked on the recent Golf Tournament. <br />Vice Mayor Galvan mentioned the swimming-pool issue at John Muir and <br />indicated the Health Department has inspected it and has required that certain <br />repairs be made within 180 days or it will be shut down. He noted he <br />understands the pool falls within the School District's purview, but he would <br />like to see the pool saved. He challenged the Chamber of Commerce and the <br />community to raise approximately $30,000 to do the needed repairs. <br />Council Member Nardine commented on previous efforts by the Washington <br />Manor Swim Team parents, whereby they resurfaced the pool with their own <br />hands. She indicated she accepts Vice Mayor Galvan's challenge and stated <br />she will help to further the Chamber's efforts to save the pool. <br />Council discussion ensued regarding the possibility of utilizing CDBG funding <br />for this type of project. Council Member Glaze indicated this is just the type of <br />thing a development, such as the Cherry City Development, could help fund. <br />4. Council Member Loeffler commented on the recent Flag Day Ceremonies and <br />commended Martin Francis and the San Leandro Police Department for their <br />efforts. He also commended Kathy Ornelas, Community Relations <br />Representative, for her efforts in working with groups such as these to make <br />these festivities so successful. <br />Council Member Loeffler queried staff as to when parking meters will be <br />installed on Juana Avenue. <br />5. Council Member Lothrop indicated that the West San Leandro Advisory <br />Committee will be coming to the City Council with their recommendations at a <br />Work Session on July 12, 1999. With regard to the John Muir pool issue, she <br />feels there are several members of the business community that should be <br />willing to participate in raising funds for the repairs. <br />6. Mayor Young indicated she has received letters regarding the swimming-pool <br />issue and said Vice Mayor Galvan's challenge is a good one. She mentioned <br />Deep Ocean as a local business that may be interested in the challenge and said <br />a corporate challenge may be the better way to go. With the support of the <br />remainder of the City Council, Mayor Young, Council Member Nardine, and <br />Vice Mayor Galvan indicated they would work together as a team to <br />
