Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council and Page 6 <br />San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Joint Meeting -October a, 1999 <br />Mayor Young thanked the Council for the comments regarding the ls` Annual <br />Mayor's Cup Golf Tournament and indicated that the event raised funds for the <br />Sister City Program. She indicated that although they have not completed the <br />final accounting of monies raised, it appears they have raised approximately <br />$7,000 for the program. The Mayor then presented a framed golf flag signed by <br />the architect, John Harbottle, to those Council Members who were unable to <br />stay until the end of the golf tournament event. <br />The Mayor also indicated that the Trivia Bee will be held on October 22, 1999, <br />and that the City Council needs ro choose a team. <br />The Mayor concluded by commenting on a letter she received from Shirley <br />Dean, Mayor of Berkeley, regarding the proposed area code 510 overlay from <br />the phone company. She indicated that PacBell intends to overlay a new area <br />code in the 510 area which will result in everyone having to dial 11 numbers <br />anytime you call anyone, including your next door neighbor, starting next April. <br />The Mayor continued by commenting that Berkeley has speared-headed a <br />campaign to prevent this from happening and added that the City Council may <br />want to start their own letter-writing campaign against this. <br />Council Member Glaze indicated that the City of Los Angeles has filed a lawsuit <br />to delay the implementation of this program in the Los Angeles area. <br />The Mayor noted that Berkeley has filed a lawsuit also. She added that the letter <br />received from Mayor Dean indicates that Berkeley feels that several recent <br />actions of the various regulatory agencies are making some impact and that the <br />constant "hammering" of unhappy users may cause it not to happen at all. <br />7. CONSENT CALENDAR <br />Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered for approval <br />by the City Council with one single action. The City Council may remove items from <br />the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion.
