Vice Mayor Galvan echoed Council Member Glaze's comments on the <br />rededication of the Marina Golf Course and commended Mayor Young for a job <br />well done. <br />3. Council Member Loeffler commented on the success of the rededication of the <br />Marina Golf Course and commended the Mayor on her successful Mayor's Cup <br />Golf Tournament Event. <br />Council Member Loeffler also reported that he and the Mayor met with <br />Alameda County Transit to review the plans fora $2.5 million grant to conduct <br />a study to evaluate strategies to improve the Berkeley, Oakland, San Leandro <br />corridor. He indicated that over the next 15 months, public meetings will be <br />held in the three cities to obtain public input on the concept. He noted that <br />alternative vehicles will be considered from hybrid dieseUelectric buses to light <br />rail, adding that tentative plans are to begin the public meetings in November. <br />Council Member Loeffler also commented that the Oakland/San Leandro Ad <br />Hoc Subcommittee met in San Leandro to receive an update on our joint <br />revitalization efforts. He indicated that they are planning to take the full report <br />to both Councils in a joint meeting sometime in November. <br />Council Member Loeffler commended American Golf Corporation for their <br />completion of the new Marina Course. He indicated the rededication was a <br />wonderful historic event, adding that it was great to see former Mayor Jack <br />Maltester and City Manager Emeritus, Wes McClure. He further commented <br />that it is a tribute to our staff that today we have created apublic-private <br />partnership that is rebuilding our golf courses and bringing new resources to our <br />community. <br />Council Member Loeffler also commented that as he walks the community <br />every day, he continues to notice that we have dirty sidewalks in the business <br />area. He questioned if it is possible for merchants to work with the City to <br />coordinate the sweeping of their sidewalks with the city's street sweeping <br />efforts. <br />Council Member Loeffler concluded by commending the Mayor for sharing her <br />views on Internet taxation in the Contra Costa Tri Valley Business Times. He <br />stated that he concurs with her opinion that it is critical that we stay on top of <br />this issue and encourage people to shop locally. <br />4. Mayor Young announced that Council Member Grant will be going on a trip to <br />Brazil and that she will be visiting our Sister City while on her journey. <br />
