Vice Mayor Galvan indicated he had mentioned at the last City Council <br />meeting that he would like the Mayor to schedule an opportunity to recognize <br />Mr. and Mrs. Jack Maltester on a future Agenda. <br />The Mayor indicated she intends to schedule an event in December. She <br />further indicated she did not do a Proclamation supporting the San Leandro <br />High School Pirates on October 29`~ because it seemed inappropriate, given <br />Bishop O'Dowd students live in San Leandro as well. She added that she will <br />be doing a Proclamation for "Spirit Week" at San Leandro High School for <br />their Homecoming festivities next week. <br />2. Council Member Grant reported on her recent visit to Brazil and her visit to <br />our Sister City Ribeirao Preto. <br />3. Council Member Glaze asked for a report on Salel's in relation to the <br />complaints made by residents last week. Chief Toe Kitchen noted his staff has <br />done a report, and it will be in this week's City Council information packet. <br />4. Council Member Loeffler submitted his comments in writing and they are <br />attached and incorporated herein. <br />5. Mayor Young indicated she had received a letter from the Ribeirao Preto <br />Educational Program Exchange, requesting the City of San Leandro consider <br />entertaining some foreign-exchange students in 2000. She noted the City of <br />San Leandro does not have the staff to organize such an event, and she would <br />suggest this be forwarded to the U.P.E.C. (Portuguese Union of California) or <br />Rotary Club for assistance. <br />Council Member Loeffler suggested it be forwarded to the Portuguese Club at <br />San Leandro High School. <br />The Mayor noted that Lucinda Ryan, reporter from The San Leandro Times, <br />will be taking a new assignment with ANG Newspapers and The Daily Review. <br />She wished her well. <br />
