Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 3 -
' San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - March 16, 1998
E. Leon Mayer, 537 Santa Ynez, addressed the Council in support of Parcel
Map 7186.
F. Bill Lubker, 13214 Aurora Drive, addressed the Council in favor of
Parcel Map 7186.
G. Yvette Rice, 13160 Neptune Drive, addressed the Council in support of
approving Parcel Map 7186.
H. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council and stated
that he, a registered Democrat and a non-partisan candidate seeking a
City of San Leandro non-partisan, elected public office, will not vote
for any candidate who has been endorsed by any political party and is
seeking a non-partisan or "Open-Primary," elected public office in the
June 2, 1998, local or State-wide election. He went on to note the City
of San Leandro and its Charter are clearly politically based on non-
partisan political elections. He feels the Mayor stepped over the line
when she first became a partisan political candidate seeking a partisan
political elected office. He further stated she should remove herself
as Mayor of San Leandro, and Council Member Joanne Lothrop should take
over the mayoral duties, until or after the June 2nd City Election. He
continued by stating Candidate Shelia Young, running for Mayor, raises
questions of honor and credibility, ethically, as an elected, sitting
Council Member. He feels she should resign her elected office before,
not after the fact. He feels her obvious refusal to do so, shall deny
City voters their right to elect her replacement, provided if City
voters are not aware of what can take place when an elected City office
holder is also a mayoral candidate in the June 2nd City Election.
I. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159th Avenue, addressed the Council regarding
weeds on Fairway Drive and across from Unisource. He also relayed to
the Council he is getting comments on the relocation of the library and
that it should stay, perhaps, where it is now. He also expressed
concerns with jay-walking in our community, suggesting they should be
written tickets for doing so.
The City Attorney, in response to Mr. Filipovich's remarks, commented
that there is nothing he is aware of that would disqualify any of the
candidates, both those on the Council now and those that are running for
Council, and nothing that would affect their ability to continue in
office.
