Y
i
r
Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 14 -
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - April 20, 1998
4. Council Member Young commended the Young San Leandrans and Lamar
Heystek for their involvement in the political process. She
commented that the school system has encouraged them, as well. She
added that the Council should be able to address the gas issue, as
did Berkeley.
5. In response to Council's comments, the Mayor received direction from
the Council to send a letter protesting the cost of gasoline in the
Bay Area.
It was also noted that staff should contact the East Bay Regional
Parks District regarding their signage as it relates to the feeding
of feral cats.
6. Council Member Galvan asked for an update on the Castro Street area
and the residential problems they were having. He also noted that,
in June, buses will be coming off of West Juana. He added there is
a need for the Finance Committee to look at the CIP for further work
to be done in that area; he indicated there is a need for more than
painting stripes - perhaps more landscaping would be helpful.
Council Member Galvan also commented on the need for a downtown
meeting and/or gathering spot - perhaps a park at the old Crocker
Bank Building site. He stressed the need for open space in the
downtown. He continued by commenting on the recent ribbon cutting at
the home of Wandzia Grycz on the occasion of she and her family
reoccupying their home after the fire last year. He extended his
thanks to her and her family for their hospitality and welcomed her
back into her home.
7. The City Manager commented that he will be sending out a draft of the
report on the budget to the Finance Committee this week. The report
should be coming to the Council on May 4, 1998.
8. Mayor Corbett congratulated the Engineering and Transportation
Department for closing the sinkhole at Davis Street and Doolittle
Drive in such a timely fashion.
9. ADJOURN
The City Council adjourned its meeting at 10:40 p.m. in Memory of Millie
Costa, wife of Elmer Costa, who passed away last Tuesday. She noted that
Millie was very active in her local church and enjoyed gardening, playing
bridge, and spending time with her grandchildren.
APPROVED:
LLEN CORBETT
~` M of the City of San Leandro
Attest: . ~" ~ ~: ,~~'
Gayl e P ersen, City C1 erk F:\MINUTES\1998\042088
i,i
