Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council Meeting <br />July 27, 1998 <br />2. NEW BUSINESS <br />A. Interviews of Candidates to Fill Vacant Seat, City Council, District 2. <br />- Conduct Interviews <br />- City Council Discussion <br />Page 2 <br />(1495/1055) <br />- City Council Appointment to Fill Vacant Seat, City Council, District 2. <br />Note: Swearing In will occur at the August 3, 1998, City Council Meeting. <br />The Mayor made some brief statements regarding the process that will be followed <br />and mentioned she has received a request by a citizen outside of District 2 to be <br />considered for this vacant seat. It has been determined by the City Attorney that <br />the citizen may not be considered. <br />The Council then proceeded to interview the following persons: <br />Melody Marr <br />Arnold Mew <br />Surlene Grant <br />Joel DeWitt <br />Following the interviews, the Council took a brief recess from 7:20 p.m. to 7:25 <br />p.m. <br />The Council reconvened and proceeded to deliberate the strengths and weaknesses <br />of the potential candidates. After expressing their specific concerns regarding <br />meeting the needs of the community, the Council cast their first ballots. <br />The first ballot results were tallied by the City Clerk, and it was announced Melody <br />Man received three (3) votes and Surlene Grant received three (3) votes; with <br />Arnold Mew and Joel DeWitt receiving no (0) votes. <br />The first ballot results were read aloud by the City Clerk: <br />Council Member Galvan voting for Melody Marr. <br />Council Member Nardine voting for Melody Marr. <br />Council Member Glaze voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Council Member Lothrop voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Council Member Loeffler voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Mayor Young voting for Melody Marr. <br />
