+ ~ . <br />Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page 3 <br />July 27, 1998 <br />Council continued discussing the perceived strengths and weaknesses of each <br />candidate receiving votes. The Council then discussed and agreed they would take <br />up to three votes to break the tie. If, after three votes, there was still a tie, then the <br />Council would have to discuss what further action would be taken -- either a <br />continuance of the appointment process, or set a Special Election date to fill the <br />vacancy. The Council then cast their second ballot. <br />The second ballot results were tallied by the City Clerk, and it was announced that <br />Surlene Grant received four (4) votes and Melody Marr received two (2) votes. <br />The following ballot results were read aloud by the City Clerk: <br />Council Member Galvan voting for Melody Man. <br />Council Member Nardine voting for Melody Man. <br />Council Member Glaze voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Council Member Lothrop voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Council Member Loeffler voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Mayor Young voting for Surlene Grant. <br />Given Surlene Grant received a majority of the votes cast, the following Motion <br />was then introduced: <br />Minute Order No. 98-42, Matter of City Council Appointment to Fill Vacant <br />Seat, City Council, District 2. (1495/1055) <br />The City Council appointed Surlene Grant to fill the vacant seat for City <br />Council, District 2. <br />M/S/C Galvan and Lothrop. Ayes: 6; Noes: 0 <br />The City Clerk noted Surlene Grant will be sworn in as Council Member, District <br />2, at the August 3, 1998, City Council Meeting. <br />B. Minute Order No. 98-43, Matter of Appointment of Vice Mayor. (1315) <br />The City Council appointed Council Member Gordon Galvan Vice Mayor. <br />M/S/C Lothrop and Nardine. Ayes: 6; Noes: 0 <br />
