Minutes -City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 3 -
October 19, 1998
B. Nat Kleinstein, 1662 Sagewood, addressed the Council regarding the proposed
budget cuts, indicating that he is in support of retaining all funds for the Boys and
Girls Club. He suggested that the $30,000 the Council is retaining to purchase
CATV equipment could be used toward the Boys and Girls Club instead.
C. William Athey, 1805 Sunberg Ave., addressed the Council regarding turnouts
for cars at Woodrow Wilson School. He indicated a problem when the ice cream
trucks stop near the school, which creates a problem for safety for the children
when school is getting out. He noted that the situation on Williams Street is
pretty bad.
D. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Dr., addressed the Council regarding
maintenance of property on Davis Street -the Old Corporation Yard Site. He
indicated that there are issues with the deed noting that it is based on an
assessment that affects private property. He stressed that he has a problem with
an appointed official (referring to the Planning Commission) making a decision
on these matters when all the information is not complete. He would like more
information on it, as nobody knows what is going on. He indicated his frustration
that this matter is not coming before the Council for a hearing yet, as he had heard
that it would be coming forward but has seen no notices to that effect.
E. Rob Roth, Executive Director of DECARA, addressed the Council to introduce
himself and to give a brief overview of the services that DECARA provides.
F. Larry Allphin, representing the Downtown Business Association, addressed
the Council and reported on the recent successful Sausage and Suds Festival and
presented tee shirts commemorating the event to the Mayor and Council. He
concluded by thanking all the staff involved and especially the Public Works Staff
who helped make the event the success that it was.
5. CONSENT CALENDAR
Consent Calendar items are typically routine in nature and are considered for
approval by the City Council with one single action. The City Council may remove
items from the Consent Calendar for purposes of discussion. Items listed on the
Consent Calendar are deemed to have been read by title.
Item S.D was removed from the Consent Calendar to New Business.
