2.5.3 Key Connections Map
Using, in part, background information prepared as part of the Strategy, our team will develop a
map identifying key connections between the destinations discussed above in Task 2.5.2.
Connections will be color coded on the map to distinguish them on the basis of importance.
Icons will be shown on the rnap, to clarify what modes (e.g. automobile, bicycle, pedestrian)
could be accommodated on the identified connections.
2.5.4 Key Decision Points Map
Based on the information from the destination ranking table and key connections map, we will
prepare a separate map to identify key decision points within the study area. The primary
purpose of this rnap will be to illustrate where the installation of wayfmding features for the
various modes (bicycle, pedestrian, and auto) would be most appropriate. In developing this
map, our team members will carefully consider the interface that currently exists between
existing access features and key destinations, such as the interface between San Leandro
Boulevard and the BART station. Based on its assessment of existing wayfinding features,
destination ranking, and key connections, our team will graphically depict where new
wayfinding signage should be focused and generally what types of signage would be optimal
given the specific context.
The conceptual wayfinding plan will be included as a separate chapter or section in the larger
interface plan. The conceptual plan will include the maps developed in Tasks 2.5.3-2.5-4 above
and a summary of key conclusions and recommendations.
Deliverables: Working Paper 3 -BART Station Access and Circulation Concepts with
Supporting Technical Analysis in Appendix
Working Paper 4 -Conceptual Way-Finding Plan
Meetings: Community Workshop 2: Design Concepts and Identification of Community
Priorities.
3. ACCESSIBILITY PLAN
3.1 Accessibility Audit
The Kimley-Horn team will provide a visual accessibility audit of the existing access corridors to
the BART station comprising the length of San Leandro Boulevard from Castro Street to
approximately 300 feet north of Davis Street, and on the cross streets for a distance of
approximately 300 feet from San Leandro Boulevard. The audit will be based on the most recent
ADAAG and PROWAG requirements. This assessment will establish a template or model for
reviewing and assessing streets further from the BART station and proposed development access
plans.
3.2 Accessibility Review of Conceptual Designs
The conceptual designs prepared for San Leandro Boulevard and the BART station transit plaza
will be reviewed based on the criteria developed above.
San Leandro Blvd-BART Interface Plan June, 2009
26 of 38
