Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 7 - <br />June 2, 1997 <br />The following Resolution was then introduced: <br />Resolution No. 97-67, Resolution of the City Council of the Gity of San <br />Leandro in Support of the Reauthorization of the Intermodal Surface <br />Transportation Efficiency Act [ISTEA], by Congress (endorses efforts by <br />the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency for the extension of <br />ISTEA and funding beyond its expiration on September 30, 1997). <br />(1219/1250) <br />M/S/C Young and Galvan. Ayes: 6; Noes: 0; Absent: Lothrop <br />B. Report on Closed Session Actions Taken. <br />None <br />7. OPEN FORUM <br />Open Forum is limited to 3 minutes maximum per speaker, 15 minutes total. <br />A. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council and commended <br />Vice Mayor Loeffler for his efforts to get the citizens involved. He <br />added that the warehouses and businesses we have here have gone down the <br />tubes. Local union membership has been decreasing tremendously. He <br />commented further on intermodal service. Mr. Filipovich then continued <br />by commenting on the San Leandro City News, San Leandro Journal, and the <br />City Parks and Recreation Programs publication, which he feels are not <br />being distributed appropriately. He expressed concerns with the amount <br />of staff time and costs expended on the San Leandro City News <br />publication. <br />B. Laverne Anderson, 1495 - 159th Avenue, addressed the Council, reminding <br />citizens tomorrow is election day; and people should get out and vote on <br />the EMS Measures. He urged everyone to support the two Measures and <br />related a personal story of how paramedic service saved his wife's life. <br />He concluded by commenting on the increasing tendency for persons to run <br />red lights and related a recent experience on East 14th Street. <br />Mayor Corbett encouraged everyone to get out and vote tomorrow and to <br />support both EMS Measures. <br />8.
