Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council Meeting Page - 8 -
June 2, 1997
C. City Council Comments
1. Council Member Young commented on a request for a Proclamation for
the Emergency Shelter in Hayward, which is celebrating its 25th
Anniversary on June 20th. The Mayor responded that she will check to
make sure it's provided.
Council Member Young also commented on the recent Health Fair held by
Columbia-San Leandro Hospital, noting it was very successful and that
Jack LaLane was their special guest.
Council Member Young concluded by requesting that the Council Meeting
be adjourned in memory of Bob Boyer, a great civic leader, who passed
away this last week. She commented on Mr. Boyer's service to the
community and noted that he will certainly be missed.
2. Vice Mayor Loeffler reported that he represented the City at a
Memorial Service for Veterans at the Chapel of the Chimes, attended
the graduation festivities for Leadership San Leandro, and attended
the Yacht Club Anniversary festivities.
Vice Mayor Loeffler concluded by responding to the concern expressed
regarding the running of red traffic lights and related a recent
experience he had with an Alameda County Transit Bus that almost hit
him in a pedestrian crosswalk. He said they should be enforced more
strictly, and contact should be made with the A.C. Transit District
to relate our concerns.
3. Council Member Polvorosa commented on the trend for total disregard
for traffic signals.
4. Mayor Corbett thanked Harold Kitzmann for the "Buckle-Up" stickers he
left for Council on the dais; encouraged citizens to get out and vote
tomorrow; and indicated to Council that she will be distributing a
copy of the National Action Plan to Control Drugs that was presented
to Congress and the President during her recent visit to the White
House with the Chief of Police. She will forward a copy to the
Council along with a memorandum summarizing the conference they
attended.
Mayor Corbett acknowledged and the Council sang Happy Birthday to the
City Clerk, Gayle Petersen.
5. The City Attorney introduced a new staff member of the City
Attorney's Office, Leanne Randolph, who formerly worked for the Fair
Political Practices Commission.
