~~ Minutes - Gity of San Leandro City Council and Page - 2 -
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Special Meeting - June 30, 1997
SPECIAL MEETING -- 7.00 P.M -- CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS
1. CALL TO ORDER
A. Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag
B. Roll Call
PRESENT: Council Members Galvan, Glaze, Loeffler, Lothrop, Polvorosa,
Young; Mayor Corbett
ABSENT: None
2. PUBLIC COMMENTS
Public Comments are limited to 5 minutes per person. The public is invited
to make any comments related to Agenda items, or other items of public
interest, at this time.
A. Tony Santos, 14495 Nassau Road, addressed the Council on behalf of
NAACSL and thanked the Council, Wandzia Grycz, and staff for their
contributions to the North Field Research Group Meeting, noting special
thanks to Kathy Ornelas for the work she did. He noted they finally
have a commitment from the Airport to present to them some possible
solutions for the use of the North Field runways. That report is
forthcoming and should be in the Council's and NAACSL's hands by July 7,
1997, for review and comment. He noted it is also their understanding
that the Airport is finally committed to installing four, additional
noise monitors. NAACSL has stated the two they now have should be moved
-- one to Garfield and one to the other two schools, Muir and Wilson.
One should be installed at Davis Street in that residential corridor,
and there is one needed at Washington Manor. He concluded by stating
the NAACSL has been invited to a meeting which is to be held July 24,
1997, at 5:30 p.m., in Hayward. The meeting has been called by the City
Manager of Hayward. He left a copy of the letter of response from
NAACSL, accepting the invitation, and noting they are hopeful that there
will be representatives present from Congressman Stark and Assemblyman
Sweeney's offices. They are hoping to get Supervisor Gale Steele
involved, also.
Mayor Corbett commented that Council Member Joanne Lothrop spent the
morning with a group from Davis Street West, discussing airport
concerns, as well. She also commented that a letter was sent out with
her signature to the Port of Oakland, requesting the sitting of noise
monitors; and a letter has been returned, confirming the sitting of the
monitors. The City will be working with them closely to ensure that
they will be placed in the very best position to receive the best
information with regard to noise issues.
Mr. Santos requested that the Mayor support, and be on the forefront of,
the possibility of the reconstitution of the Port Commission to see if
a representative from their area could be appointed to that Commission.
