Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 3 -
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Special Meeting - June 30, 1997
Council Member Lothrop commented that the affects that the airport is
having aren't those that are just specific to District 6. It really impacts
citizens all over the community. She concluded by stating the entire Council is
very committed to this issue and interested in doing whatever they can to
mitigate the circumstances.
Vice Mayor Loeffler thanked Mr. Santos' group for their participation
in this issue and noted the overall awareness is at a much higher level
because of their participation. He, too, noted they are hearing more
aircraft noise in his district (District 5) due to airplanes cutting
into that area to reach the runway.
B. Glen Hilton, President of Best Manor Homeowners` Association, addressed
the Council, noting they have been following the Creekside Development
since its inception and hope the Council will look favorably on it when
they vote.
C. Rick Richards, 335 Peralta Avenue, addressed the Council on behalf of
the Friends of the San Leandro Creek. He commented that he hopes
everyone enjoyed the barbecue this last week. He also added that he
would like to go on record, on behalf of the Friends of the San Leandro
Creek, that Mr. Irmer has worked closely with them and the proposed
project is a very exciting one. He feels the project pays tribute to
the history of San Leandro and hopes the Council is supportive of the
project.
D. Carey Walker, 471 Santa Monica, Mission Bay Mobile Home Park, addressed
the Council, regarding the Mayor's and Council's salary. He noted that,
compared to surrounding cities, the Council and Mayor would be making
too much. He feels those monies could be better spent fixing streets.
He concluded by commenting that the Daily Review and the Times should
report what the people say and not just what the Council says. He also
noted the railroad crossings are in need of repair.
E. Ann Hague, 1102 San Rafael Street, President of Estudillo Homeowners`
Association, addressed the Council, stating she is very impressed with
the developer of the Creekside project. The developer took time and
sought public input, and she hopes the Council is supportive of the
project. She feels it will be a wonderful addition to San Leandro.
F. Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council, expressing
concerns that the Minutes for the last Council Meeting are not yet
available and will not be until the first meeting in August. He added
that each Agenda should provide for time for the public to speak on any
relevant topic, pursuant to Government Code Sections 54954.2 and
54954.3. He stated it is impossible to speak to items on an Agenda that
is so overloaded. He also expressed frustration that he never gets his
questions answered.
Mr. Filipovich commented on the Mayor's attendance at the recent Mayors'
Conference in San Francisco and added that, during the President's
speech, it was very obvious the Democrats had seats and the Republicans
had to stand up.
