Minutes - City of San Leandro City Council and Page - 6 -
San Leandro Redevelopment Agency Meeting - August 18, 1997
Terri Neumann, Chairman of the San Leandro Chamber of Commerce,
addressed the Council in support of the proposal. She noted it
represents a new tax base, new jobs, and needed services. She
complimented Mr. Irmer for his diligence in obtaining community
support and urged Council's approval of the project.
Ann Hague, 1102 San Rafael Court, addressed the Council and echoed
the comments of the persons before her who spoke in favor of the
project and added that she has enjoyed sitting on the site committee.
She continued by stating everything about this development is first
class. She urged the Council to approve the proposal.
Kai Bender, 261 Begier Avenue, addressed the Council in support of
the proposed development. He thanked Mr. Irmer for his efforts and
added that this proposal sets the precedent for future developments.
He feels the developer really listened to the community and concluded
by stating he feels the developer has done a fine job on this
project.
Lou Filipovich, 15376 Laverne Drive, addressed the Council,
commenting that, if the project was so great, it should have been
funded privately, not with Redevelopment Agency funding. He added
that the Redevelopment Agency is only accountable to the elected
officials that form them. The Redevelopment Agency doesn't own the
land, the taxpayers do. He questioned who is going to end up
subsidizing who? He feels this proposal should be put to a vote of
the people.
There being no further comments from the public, the Public Hearing
was closed.
M/S/C Loeffler and Polvorosa. Ayes: 7; Noes: 0
2.
