POLICIES AND ACTIONS <br />PROGRESS <br />Action 56.01 A: Minor Home Repair Program <br />Continue local financial support for the Minor Home Repair Program, which provides <br />$2, 000 grants to low and very low income homeowners for emergency repairs and the <br />correction of household hazards. Expand publicity for this progr-arn through articles in <br />City News, expanded use of the "housing programs "link on the City's website, press <br />releases and liaison with the San Leandro Times and other media outlets, advertisements <br />on the City's local access cable channel, greater coordination with the Police <br />Department's Community Compliance officers, increased use ofprornotional flyers at <br />San Leandro public libraries, door to door canvassing in target areas, greater use of <br />multi-lingual printed materials, and targeted campaigns in neighborhoods with high <br />concentrations of older housing stock. The City is planning to conduct a mass mailing to <br />several target neighborhoods during 2003 with information about the Minor Home <br />Repair and Owner Occupied Rehabilitation Prograrrrs. <br />Action 56.01-B: Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program <br />Continue local support for the Owner-Occupied Housing Rehabilitation Program, which <br />provides loans and technical assistance to very low arrd low income homeowners for <br />major repairs and improvements. Explore the feasibility of increasing the funding for this <br />program and raising the maximum loan amount from the existing ceiling of $20, 000. <br />Expand publicity for this program through articles in City News, expanded use of the <br />"housing programs " link on the City's website, press releases and liaison with the San <br />Leandro Tirnes and other media outlets, advertisements on the City's local access cable <br />channel, greater coordination with the Police Department's Community Compliance <br />ofcers, increased use of promotional flyers at San Leandro public libraries, door to <br />door canvassing in target areas, greater use ofmulti-lingual printed materials, and <br />targeted campaigns in neighborhoods with high concentrations of older housing stock. <br />The City is planning to conduct a mass mailing to several target neighborhoods during <br />2003 with information about the Minor Home Repair and Owner Occupied <br />Rehabilitation Programs. <br />Policy 56.02 REHABILITATION OF RENTER- <br />OCCUPIED HOUSING STOCK <br />Implement measures that assist the owners of <br />multi-family rental projects in maintaining their <br />properties and improving the quality of rental <br />apartments. These measures should include <br />rehabilitation assistance, and acquisition/ <br />rehabilitation programs in which the long-term <br />affordability of rental units is assured. <br />The City works on a continuing basis <br />to consider apartment rehabilitation <br />projects on a case-by-case basis and <br />typically relies on Redevelopment <br />Housing Set Aside funds for these <br />activities. <br />Action 56.02 - A: The most recent <br />rehabilitation projects include the <br />Surf Apartments and Tropic Court <br />apartments which were completed in <br />FY2000-2001 and FY 2002-2003. <br />The City also maintains the single <br />family rehab loan program for <br />residential buildings containing <br />between 1-4 units. <br />Year 2004 Annual Housing Progress Report 30 City Of San Leandro <br />
