POLICIES AND ACTIONS <br />PROGRESS <br />Policy 59.03 INFORMATION AND REFERRAL <br />SERVICES <br />Provide information and referral services that <br />direct families and individuals to agencies that <br />can assist them in overcoming financial barriers <br />to housing rental or purchase, locating suitable <br />housing, and obtaining housing with special <br />facilities such as disabled-accessible units. <br />Housing Services staff regularly <br />fields affordable housing calls and <br />provides necessary information or <br />refers inquiries to appropriate <br />agencies such as ECHO or the <br />County Housing Authority. <br />Policy 59.04 OUTREACH ON HOUSING RESOURCES <br />Ensure that City housing programs are well <br />publicized throughout the community. Use a <br />variety of methods, including multi-lingual <br />printed materials, broadcast media, and the <br />Internet to advertise programs that assist low and <br />moderate income San Leandro homeowners and <br />renters. <br />The City's website contains a <br />comprehensive description of <br />available housing programs. Also, <br />newspaper articles have been written <br />to publicize city programs. <br />Action 59.04 A: Housing Highlights Newsletter <br />Confinue to produce a quarterly housing newsletter to inform tenants, prospective <br />homebuyers, and public agencies of the housing programs and activities funded by the <br />Redevelopment Agency artd the City. Explore the production of this newsletter in other <br />languages, such as Spanish. <br />Policy 59.05 PUBLIC EDUCATION <br />Promote multi-lingual public education and <br />awareness of fair housing requirements and the <br />need for affordable housing. Work to address <br />misconceptions about affordable housing and to <br />build broad recognition and support for such <br />housing in the community. <br />The City promotes a variety of <br />housing education through the First <br />Time Homebuyers program and <br />participation in other area-wide <br />housing events. City staff works on <br />informing Planning Commission and <br />City Council on affordable housing <br />issues through community meetings <br />and work sessions.
