APPENDIX "A" <br />The monthly pay rates shall be as applicable below: <br />Classification Monthly Pay Range <br />Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Step 4 Step 5 <br />Sergeant <br />1/1/06 $6806 $7146 $7503 $7878 $8272 <br />Police Officer <br />1/1/06 $5671 $5954 $6252 $6565 $6893 <br />Police $22.00/hr <br />Recruit <br />Trainee <br />Step 6 <br />The City shall contribute to the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) each pay period a <br />portion of the employee contribution rate as established by law equal to nine percent (9°Io) for sworn <br />employees represented by the Association of the employee's "compensation" as that term is <br />administered by the Board of Administration of PERS as of the above date. <br />Contributions made pursuant to this section shall be reported to PERS as "employee contributions <br />being made by the contracting agency. They shall be reported as compensation for retirement <br />purposes. The City will not treat these contributions as compensation subject to income tax <br />withholding unless the Internal Revenue Service or Franchise Tax Board determines that such <br />contributions are taxable income subject to withholding. <br />Each employee is solely and personally responsible for any federal, state or local tax liability of the <br />employee that may arise out of the implementation of this section or any penalty that may be <br />imposed therefore. <br />Except as set forth in the following paragraph the aforesaid contribution shall be considered solely <br />for the purpose set forth herein and shall not be considered for any other purpose, including but not <br />limited to being considered as part of any employee's salary for the purpose of computing straight <br />time earnings, compensation for paid leaves, compensation for overtime worked, compensation <br />benefits. The City reserves the right to take said contributions into account for the purpose of salary <br />comparisons with other employers. <br />25 <br />
