Proposed Scope of Work <br />Classroom Workshops <br />Safe Moves proposes to conduct 225 classroom workshops for elementary, middle and <br />high school. All classroom instruction will be geared toward each grade level. <br />The in-school workshops will include an exhibit that consists of traffic signs, signals, <br />cars, and various bicycle models, helmets and displays that represent the most dangerous <br />traffic situations for students (grades Pre K-6 only) are involved with the educational <br />process by participating in the demonstrations by wearing traffic sign costumes to depict <br />traffic situations facing them as bicyclists, pedestrians and vehicle passengers. <br />Videos of television news stories are shown to 8th -12th grade students that depict the <br />consequences of driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Safe Moves will also <br />invite students who have been involved in a traffic collision to share their experiences. <br />The lesson plans are designed to accommodate the abilities, cognitive learning skills and <br />the comprehension of each grade level, In addition to traffic safety education, the lesson <br />plans are designed to increase the use of alternative modes of transportation among <br />students in order to decrease traffic congestion in and around school sites, hence making <br />a safer school environment for students. The following outlines the information being <br />taught in the school workshops. <br />Bicycle Education <br />Helmet use (fit and maintenance) <br />Choosing the right bike <br />Proper bicycling clothing <br />Recognition and avoidance of common bicycle collisions <br />Bicycle maintenance and repair <br />Rules, regulations and ordinances that govern bicyclists <br />Bicycle registration <br />Using safe bike routes to and from school <br />Consequences of unsafe bicycle use <br />Pedestrian Education <br />Safe places to walk (sidewalks, parks etc.) <br />Unsafe places to walk (streets, railroad tracks, parking lots etc) <br />Stranger awarenesslpersonal safety <br />Crosswalks (controlled and uncontrolled) <br />Recognition and understanding of signs and signals <br />Recognition and avoidance of common pedestrian collisions <br />Walking to school safely (safe routes, getting out of a parent's car) <br />Attire (bright colored clothing, tied shoelaces etc.) <br />Walking on busy sidewalks <br />Precautions to take around special events (e.g. Halloween) <br />SAFE MOVES CSA Page 4 of 21 <br />Project No. 120-38-176 <br />
