If a bicycle does not pass inspection, the child is not allowed to ride the <br />bike on the course. A Safe Moves bike will be provided for the child to <br />use on the course. <br />Each helmet that is brought to the rodeo is inspected. A rodeo staff <br />member inspects the helmet for proper fit, certification and for wear and <br />tear. Recommendations are made to each child if the helmet needs to be <br />replaced. <br />If a child does not have a helmet or did not bring a helmet to the rodeo, <br />they are provided with a helmet to use on the rodeo course. The flyers and <br />all related promotional materials promote the importance of each bicyclist <br />bringing their own helmet to the rodeo. <br />d. Rodeo Course <br />Children participate in the rodeo by grade level so that bicycle and <br />pedestrian safety instruction was age and skill appropriate. <br />Safe Moves provides staff, bicycles, helmets, prizes, literature and traffic <br />safety course equipment for the rodeo. <br />Completion of the Rodeo Course <br />Each student receives safety literature after successfully completing the <br />course. <br />Fee per school rodeo: $1, 200.00 <br />Projected Number of Rodeos: 25 <br />Total Cost of School-Based Rodeos: $30, 000.00 <br />Community-Based Rodeos <br />Safe Moves proposes to conduct six (6) community-based rodeo for the general public. <br />The traffic rodeo effectively provides parents and their children an opportunity to practice <br />their traffic safety skills. The obstacle course features a miniature city consisting of <br />sidewalks,. streets, crosswalk signals, traffic signs, railroad tracks, trains, alleyways, cars, <br />trucks, dogs, pedestrians, school buses, public buses, houses with driveways and a <br />business district. The obstacle course allows children and their parents to practice bicycle <br />handling skills, pedestrian safety and general traffic safety behavior while waiting for, <br />entering and exiting school buses, public buses and passenger cars. By using a realistic <br />traffic environment that challenges the ability of the students to recognize and react to <br />traffic hazards, they become safer in traffic. <br />The lesson plans for the rodeos were as follows: <br />SAFE MOVES CSA Page 7 of 21 <br />Project No. 120-38-176 <br />
