Steve asked about going to the next Council meeting for a recommendation based on the <br />two options presented. Councilmember Souza and Reed expressed their support for <br />Option 1, with Mayor Santos agreeing to go to Council on July 20, 2009. The Committee <br />further directed the City Manager to identify and use other appropriate funds to reduce <br />the use of Street and Roads funds if possible. <br />6. Public Comments <br />Daniel Swinbank represented the 76 Eden Housing senior residents that are currently <br />using the Flex Shuttle, saying how the service has helped connect the senior residents <br />with the rest of the city. The Flex Shuttle is vital to them and San Leandro and asked that <br />the Committee seriously consider keeping the current service. <br />Chris Parman from Assemblymember Mary Hayashi's office represented the residents of <br />Fargo Senior Center, Eden Lodge and Mission Bay Mobile Horne Park. Chris indicated <br />that Assemblymember Hayashi visited the residents of these facilities. The residents <br />signed a petition in support of maintaining the Flex Shuttle. Chris stressed the importance <br />of maintaining the 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. hours and full time service that has allowed <br />senior and disabled residents to live independent lives. On behalf of the residents, he <br />asked the Committee to choose Option 1. <br />Charles Gilcrest expressed his opinion that the Flex Shuttle should be funded but not with <br />roadway maintenance dollars. <br />7. Committee Member Comments <br />Councilmember Souza mentioned the California League of Cities as a good campaign <br />strategy for the Flex Shuttle. <br />8.
