Steve asked about going to the next Council meeting for a recommendation based on the
two options presented. Councilmember Souza and Reed expressed their support for
Option 1, with Mayor Santos agreeing to go to Council on July 20, 2009. The Committee
further directed the City Manager to identify and use other appropriate funds to reduce
the use of Street and Roads funds if possible.
6. Public Comments
Daniel Swinbank represented the 76 Eden Housing senior residents that are currently
using the Flex Shuttle, saying how the service has helped connect the senior residents
with the rest of the city. The Flex Shuttle is vital to them and San Leandro and asked that
the Committee seriously consider keeping the current service.
Chris Parman from Assemblymember Mary Hayashi's office represented the residents of
Fargo Senior Center, Eden Lodge and Mission Bay Mobile Horne Park. Chris indicated
that Assemblymember Hayashi visited the residents of these facilities. The residents
signed a petition in support of maintaining the Flex Shuttle. Chris stressed the importance
of maintaining the 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. hours and full time service that has allowed
senior and disabled residents to live independent lives. On behalf of the residents, he
asked the Committee to choose Option 1.
Charles Gilcrest expressed his opinion that the Flex Shuttle should be funded but not with
roadway maintenance dollars.
7. Committee Member Comments
Councilmember Souza mentioned the California League of Cities as a good campaign
strategy for the Flex Shuttle.
8. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
