IN THE CITY COUNCIL, OF THE CITY OF SAN LEANDRO <br />RESOLUTION N0.2009-128 (1123) <br />RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF CALIFORNIA STATE ASSEMBLY BILL 962 <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of San Leandro to eliminate handgun violence; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of San Leandro wishes to enhance the San Leandro Police <br />Department's ability to investigate and prosecute handgun-related crimes; and <br />WHEREAS, easy accessibility to handgun ammunition has a direct correlation to gun <br />violence and criminal activity; and <br />WHEREAS, the program created by Assembly Bill 962 provides for the comprehensive <br />regulation of all handgun ammunition sales and transfers; and <br />WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 962 provides local law enforcement additional investigative <br />resources to address firearms and gang-related crimes at no cost to the City of San Leandro; and <br />WHEREAS, it is no secret that handgun ammunition is ending up in the hands of violent <br />criminals and gang members across California; and <br />WHEREAS, the program created by Assembly Bill 962 would cut off the dangerously easy <br />access to handgun ammunition and will ensure that handgun ammunition will not be sold to <br />criminals, gang members, and children; and <br />WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 962's regulatory changes will prevent gang members and <br />violent offenders from readily accessing handgun ammunition thereby contributing to a dramatic <br />decline in gun violence. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of San Leandro does RESOLVE as <br />follows: <br />That said resolution is hereby approved and execution thereof is hereby authorized. <br />Introduced by Councilmember Prola and passed and adopted this 8~' day of September, <br />2009, by the following called vote: <br />
